Please describe your positions on the legislative responsibility for protecting the public interest in the Education, Health Care and Criminal Justice systems. Do you have any specific proposals to improve these systems? (limit 150 words)
My job as a legislator is to protect the people I serve and the public interest of Florida. When it comes to Education, every public school should be fully funded and have the resources to give our children a good education. Every Floridian should have access to affordable and quality healthcare, and no child should not be without having access to preventive care. Criminal Justice is a area we need to make sure is fair and just, we should stop creating more barriers in our legislature but yet opportunities to prevent crime in our state. My proposal for education is to fully fund our public schools, to increase our teachers salaries and decrease the amount of standardize testing. Healthcare I will expand Medicaid and other affordable healthcare options. Criminal Justice I will advocate to eliminate mandatory minimum sentences, and eliminate direct filing of our youth. I will also advocate to restore the voting rights of 1.8 million ex- felons to help reduce recidivism.
Over 500,000 working poor Florida citizens remain without health insurance. Would you support tapping federal dollars to cover these people? If not, what kind of plan do you support? (limit 150 words)
I wouldn’t only support tapping into federal dollars, but I will be a vocal advocate to expand medicaid.
An estimated 300,000 people died from gun violence between 2004 and 2014. Here at home in Orlando, the June 12 nightclub shooting saw 49 people killed, and 50 more wounded. Do you support or oppose a state ban on assault weapons and/or more thorough background checks? (limit 150 words)
I do support a state ban on assault weapons and a more thorough background checks. In my district alone we have more gun violence than any other district in central florida. We have to address gun violence and can not afford to be silent.
